BAIKAL ELECTROMAGNETIC EXPERIMENT

Abstract. The vertical electric field Ez in the hydrosphere is not contaminated by the telluric component and therefore can efficiently be used for monitoring of various processes in the hydrosphere itself, lithosphere and atmosphere. With this aim the experiment on monitoring of Ez on the basis surface-to-floor in the Lake Baikal has been conducted since 2003. Absence of the telluric component was confirmed experimentally and justified by simulation. The effect and precursors of the close earthquake, variations of the water transport, and variations of the Global Electric Circuit current in the conducting Earth have been studied. The measurements of macroscopic quantum nonlocal correlations have also been performed since 2012. On their base the possibility of forecasting of the processes with big random component, in particular, the distant earthquake was demonstrated. On the territory adjacent to the deep-water monitoring site the measurements variable magnetic field gradients have been begun since 2017, and which are expected to expand to the entire coast of Baikal. The geoelectric models of the Baikal Rift, reflecting the known competing hypotheses, were constructed.
