AND ITS APPLICATION FOR ORBITAL TUNING
OF THE PLEISTOCENE CLIMATE RECONSTRUCTIONS

Abstract. New approach to orbital tuning of proxy paleoclimate chronologies has proposed. The approach is based on the synchronization of reconstructed past temperatures with the quasi-temperature series calculated from the data on the insolation variations at the top of the Earth’s atmosphere. To take into account time lag between insolation and induced temperature reaction the physical model describing the relation between incoming heat flux and induced temperature changes at ground surface was applied. The quasi-temperature series can be used in existing algorithms of orbital tuning at the stage of the constructing of calibration curves synchronized with paleotemperature reconstructions. The use of the quasi-temperature orbital series at the opening stage of dating of past temperature chronologies seems more valid in terms of physics versus traditional scheme of orbital tuning that involves the matching of reconstructed temperatures with insolation. The values of time lag between insolation and induced temperature reaction calculated under the proposed model are consistent well with the empirical evidences based on the analysis of independent age markers.
