PETROMAGNETIC PROPERTIES OF FALLOW SOILS AS AN INDICATOR
OF THE ORGANIC MATTER CONTENT

Abstract. In order to improve the system of fallow and virgin soils monitoring using petromagnetism, coercive spectrometry and x-ray phase analysis, the magnetic properties of chernozems, dark and light gray forest and sod-podzolic soils in the Republic of Tatarstan were studied and characterized. At soil genesis the transformation of iron compounds changes the magnetic parameters of the soil profile in comparison with the soil-forming rock, that’s why the magnetic profile reflects the processes of pedogenesis. The existence of a reliable statistical relationship between the humus content, susceptibility, and intensity of the remanent magnetization of saturation Jrs is shown. Based on the method of coercive spectrometry, a process is given for separating the contributions of lithogenic and petrogenic magnetic minerals to the intensity of the remanent magnetization of saturation Jrs. The pedogenic component in the studied soils is mainly represented by the organogenic extracellular component of the magnetite-maghemite association, which is the best applicant for proxy when assessing the humus concentration in soils by the depth of the profile using magnetic methods.
