Abstract. The paper presents the results of a study of soil cover in the territory of the «Mari Chodra» national park in the south-eastern part of the Republic of Mari El. Magnetic properties of sod-medium podzolic sandy-loam soils and sod-podzolic loam soils were studied. Samples were taken along the shoreline of the karst Yalchik Lake and up the slope from the lake. Based on the results of magnetic susceptibility measurements it is shown that the studied soil profiles are characterized by both accumulative and eluvial-illuvial distribution of mineral components depending on the conditions of soil formation and recreational activity of the given territory. It is shown that the increase of magnetic susceptibility in organogenic horizons of sod-medium podzolic and sod-podzolic soils is due to the contribution of a ferrimagnetic component. By methods of differential thermomagnetic analysis and decomposition of coercive spectra into components revealed that the main carriers of the magnetization of the presented soils are fine-grained magnetite and hematite, that's have a pedogenic origin.
Keywords: coercive spectrometry, magnetic susceptibility, magnetic analysis methods, sod-podzolic soil, soil formation, soil morphology.
